Governor's Award for Excellence in Recycling
The Indiana Department of Environmental Management presented the Governors Awards for Excellence in Recycling during the 12th Annual Indiana Recycling Coalition, Inc. conference. Fairmont Homes, Inc. and Gulfstream Coach were awarded this honor for their exceptional efforts in Reducing, Reusing and Recycling making Indiana a cleaner, healthier place to live and work.
Development of a structured recycling process has been achieved through leadership organization, training, specialized equipment, accountability and maintaining close communications with suppliers. In 2004, Fairmont Homes started a Recycle Team, which included one person from each plant to review recycling practices in each area. To maximize their recycling efforts Fairmont purchased equipment to process recyclable products. Additionally, they have minimized waste streams through source reduction efforts, including working with several vendors to switch to reusable shipping containers and/or returnable containers. In 2004, Fairmont Homes recycled over 14,500 tons of material.
Fairmont Homes has demonstrated a dedication to minimizing its waste streams for the past two decades of it's existence and continues ever-higher levels of process improvements to maintain growth and at the same time, minimize the impact of its activities on the environment and available landfill resources.
